Things remembered

With the advent of the constant contact and the virtual world, I want to take a look at where we have been. This isn't just a nostalgic look at things, but to see what we have given up to keep up with our obsessive nature.

  • WOW used to be an interjection expressing amazement, not an acronym
  • Instant gratification meant 4-6 weeks delivery
  • Members of social communities actually knew what each other looked like
  • People actually knew how to spell and use proper grammar, and be ashamed if they didn't use both
  • Ancient meant really old, not older than 5 years
  • Blending was something that you did with food, not families

What things do you think we have lost with our modern society? And do you think this is a question that could apply to any point in time (like people in the 1910's ask what they have lost since the turn of the century, etc)?

What is peace

What is peace?

We can pass the peace

There’s Rest in Peace

There’s Peace of mind

We can go in peace

And we can wish the peace be with you

WAR!

War is not peace.

There’s war and peace

There’s make love not war

But peace isn’t love

Being at peace doesn’t preclude love

Does not war ensure peace in the end?

The dove of peace is not a bird

Do birds live in peace?

Birds are birds, and birds do what birds want to do

They don’t know what peace is

The dove of peace is a state of mind

So, what is peace?

Freedom from oppression?

Freedom of expression?

Freedom of choice?

Freedom of voice?

These are freedoms enjoyed,

But they aren’t peace

Peace is rest

Being secure in knowing that all is well

You don’t need to worry

I will ensure your peace for tonight.

Governmental Psalm 23

The Psalm of David, Psalm 23, is often quoted and often used as a affirmation of faith. Here is a modern version. Note, there is only one true entity who you need to survive – the government. So praise to the government, for the surely know how to live our lives better than us.

Governmental Psalm 23

"The Obama is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down on green money, and he leads me beside quiet protests.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of greed, I will fear no bankers. Your executive orders and power grabs comfort me

You prepare a table in front of me in the face of foreclosure, my bank account is empty, but you make it overflow

Surely goodness and wealth will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell on the government doll forever.”

McSilliness

Under the headline of silliness, there was a woman in Florida who called 911, not once but 3 times, claiming a McNugget emergency. I heard this story on Howie Carr yesterday, and I have to agree with what he said – she shouldn’t have called 911 about not getting her money back, but the cashier should have given her money back. Here is where customer service breaks down.

First off, even before the money is collected, the clerk should have notified Ms. Goodman that they were out of the McNuggets. Second, McDonalds policy of all sales are final need to be reworked – the manager should have the discretion of refunding a customer’s money if the customer is unhappy.

Ah, what is the service McIndustry coming to?

Don't be hating!

I was sitting in traffic today on my way to work, major crash on I-84 Westbound in the East Hartford Area, just in case you didn’t know, and saw this car in the lane next to me. This driver covered his car in bumper stickers, almost all of them anti-Bush or anti-republican. Other than the relevance of most of the stickers is in question, the mindset still prevails. I think this person has had such hatred towards the Bush administration; he would have elected anyone proclaiming to be anything but a republican in heartbeat. The scariest part is that there are more like this person. I’m talking of people who have such hatred for the “other side”, that they can’t see the forest for the trees.

What struck me as I sat there is no way this person would be able to consider a possible solution to any problem that cam up. As long as a republican didn’t think of it, it must be a good idea. Unfortunately, these are the type of people who are the ones that beat a good idea into the ground, and are willing to follow unquestionably the ideas of someone who is “not Bush”. This means that if anyone questions the current administration, then that person in bad and evil. They have become what they said the previous administration was doing, ignoring free speech and thought.

This person irked me. Not because he was anti-Bush or anti-republican, but because he would the first person to support a policy that would lead to disaster, and not be able to see what’s coming. This person has taken a long and drawn out sip of the Kool-aide. These are the people we need to counter with logic and make ineffective with the strength of our argument. They will only respond with contradiction, not a valid argument.
